My friend just opened a salon, she wants to promote her salon..?

can u suggest anything that will help her get more customers and make them come back? aside from flyers and good signage, good beauticians/hairdresser and good location which it is...My friend just opened a salon, she wants to promote her salon..?
I had a tanning salon and got quite a few customers via using Valpak. People flip through those all the time and love to find great deals and check out the ads. Plus is caters to the area you set, since most of the clientele will be fairly local and want something within a short drive. My friend just opened a salon, she wants to promote her salon..?
Get a website, it's like having an advertisement/brochure that is available 24hrs a day 365 days a year. It is IMO the most cost effective way to advertise and with more and more people turning to the internet to find business these days it makes sense. Try http://www.carboncookie.com business website builder, you can have a website online in minutes.
Well this is tough since most salon business is developed through great word of mouth, but here are a few ideas. A yellowpage ad would be a great first step (they can sometimes be a bit pricey, but remember people generally keep their phone books for a full year). Advertising in local colleges or high school publications (newspaper, etc...) could be a good way to attract that crowd, especially if she offers a ';student discount.'; Good luck!
I found a book through my local library that I was very impressed by. It's called ';Marketing without Money'; by Nicholas E Bade. You will find many ';outside the box'; ways of marketing any business without breaking the bank.
I agree with PBBandit, run ads in local coupon mailers.

I think that you will find that the magazine format generally outperforms the stuffed envelope format.
you should advertise on the tv and this will get u the customer but to make them come back u will have to have good hairdressers and beautician and will haveto give them discounts.
You can post your ads for free at www.zikbay.com. Visit this site and you can have your own free online store!
Try these two nifty little gems!!!!

If you are in a busy shopping precinct of even a Km (half a mile) or so from one, go see the boss of the few biggest employers in your area. Tell them you have a deal for their employees that will cost them next to nothing and is something of value they can give their people. Before this meeting you need to get some nice looking professioanlly laminated cards with the salon address, and details on one side and the words SPECIAL CLIENT, 10% VIP DISCOUNT, on the reverse. You pay for the cost of the cards and any costs the other guys incur and they distribute them to all their employees with the pay slips. This is a win for both parties you see, you get the clients, they think their company is great for being able to get them a good deal on styling etc at no cost and they feel important. Its critical that you look after them well as clients though.

Now the biggie. If you are really good at this stuff (the trade I mean) then put it out there. The way to do it is like this. Big sign, I mean big --- ';100% SATISFACTION GUARANTEE';. Inside you display the term and they are, if someone is not totally satisfied with the service they receive for any reason, it will be redone free of charge by a different stylist (or whatever) free and we will give you a free gift to say how sorry we got it wrong for you. Interestingly, very few people will try to cheat you on this one, most people are in fact pretty honest with this sort of stuff. If you do get one come back, treat them like royalty, this is the one who will tell the friends.

Obviously more to this than can be written here but this should be a little start.

Best of luck with the venture. Jackson.
