Don't waste your money or time buying him supplies or flat iron/blow dyers....nothing like that. Most consumers dont know what products to buy and dont have access to the same products stylists do.
You can buy him a nice plant that fits in with his decor. Or the best gift of all would be to refer some new clients. you can get him a card and some flowers, cake, or something for his shop, like maybe a customized apron for him to wear around or something. or just go on google or any search engine and type in gift ideas for hairstylist. i just tried it they have a lot of stuff.
Get him some nice [yet good priced] hair supplies. Like shampoo or styling gel or something for his new salon. Or buy him a cheap yet functional blowdryer or like hair straightener. Or maybe like a picture or something really cool to make his salon look rad =]
